Independence Day, USA, seems perfectly fitting for a new book review here at iLiF :D
Nik Halik's latest endeavor,
The Thrillionaire, arrived in my mailbox a few days ago, the package decorated with colorful stamps from the land down under. Unwrapped it to find an outstanding publication with full color embossed cover and plenty of fantastic photos inside following Nik's world travels and memorable experiences. Superb.
Bob Proctor first turned me on to this author's debut with an email brimming over with praise & enthusiasm for an extraordinary guy with an amazing life perspective. That was my cue to surf over to Nik's website and take a closer look... My first impression? Well, let's just say,
I was blown away! HERE is a prime example of what I've been telling my kids for years, namely, that
everything is possible, and incredible opportunities seek you out once that universal principle becomes the rock-solid foundation of your knowledge base, and understanding of Life.
Ever since I first discovered books by John Holt and Raymond Moore explaining in detail the concept of homeschooling back in the 80's, we've been dedicated to the philosophy of learning in freedom. When our oldest tuned into Grace Llewellyn's
Teenage Liberation Handbook (subtitled, "How to Quit School and Get a Real Life and Education!) we knew this was right in line with what we'd already begun to uncover in our own experience. There was no turning back at this point! ;-)
Needless to say, it was a "thrill" to see Nik bringing this idea home in his chapter on "Money and the education factory." He writes, "So what is education? My concept of education is as follows -- an individual should learn how to speak, read, and write in their chosen language, and simply seek specialised knowledge." Nik continues, "The 'missing link' in the antiquated academic systems of education known to civilisation today, may be found in the failure of educational institutions to educate their students how to harness their collective thoughts and apply their acquired knowledge."
Every word in this chapter is a gold nugget, and the book a treasure in itself, but I'll sum it up with this: laying a proper foundation is key to financial freedom, not to mention health, happiness & harmony in all areas of life, and it just ain't happenin' in compulsory school systems! Summer break is the perfect time to explore alternative education, and trust me, it's not rocket science ;-) Life and learning can be
and is a thrill and a half once it's set free from the same old grind and paradigm. Whether you think it's possible to make a major shift and enjoy a life worth living at any age, under any circumstance -- or think Not --
you are right (with a tip o' the hand to one of our fave unschoolers, Henry Ford.)
